The last year I have thought a lot about getting a puppy but wasn’t sure if the timing was right. It was nice having Molly trained and adjusted well to my schedule.
She does great when I am gone at work and she is easy to take on walks.
Then this fall she started to have more problems with one of her back knees. It wasn’t bad but was starting to be more noticeable. Then this spring while playing fetch in the backyard she cut sharp and let out a loud yelp. The end result was she torn her ACL in her good back knee.
While she is doing much better now she still isn’t able to go on runs or hikes. She can go on walks but only short ones. With both bad knees now it is more of a waiting game which breaks my heart. After a lot of thought I decided now was the time to get a puppy. That way Molly could have a friend, she could help train it, and whenever she gets to the point where the pain is too much (which I hope and pray isn’t for a long time!) I won’t have to be alone. For awhile now I have been in love with the German Shepherd and knew I wanted one. My brother Jeff has a friend who breeds amazing German Shepherds and so I decided I wanted to get one from her.
On March 24th Thor was born. I was lucky enough to be able to go and see him a couple times before bringing him home and feel in love.
On May 9th my friend Jeff went with me to bring him home!!
Once we got him home we introduce him to Molly which went really well!
The first night as predicted was ROUGH! I knew I wanted him kennel trained and set up the kennel in my room next to Molly’s bed. He cried, howled, barked and kept me up almost the whole night. It took a couple nights but now he is doing really well in his kennel! The past month has flown by. Him and Molly do really well together.
He is learning how to sit to eat and come inside and does really well on walks. He had a ear that was down for a few days and it was too cute!!
He does well meeting new people and other dogs.
Having a puppy doesn’t come without challenges. The biggest for me has been his nipping. He has to nip and bite everything including people! It is slowly getting better but still a work in progress. Over all though he is a good puppy and I love him like crazy!!
And he has had his first pictures as a Jr Trooper! These are some of my favorite pictures of him!! Big thanks to Jeff for helping me with these!
I BIG thank to my Mom, my sister and my BFF for letting him out when I am work. I would not be able to do this without them. I can’t wait to see what the next month will bring!
