My Crazy Life

Summer Fun- Water Time!

This summer flew by and as I write this we are well on our way to winter. This summer was busy and fun and I would be sad if I didn’t write some of my favorite memoires. I decided the best way to do it is to break it up in a few difference blogs. The first one is all about my fun in the sun and water.

I have always loved the water and some of my favorite summer memories seem to involve water of some type. This summer was no different. Years ago (fresh out of high school) our church did a youth activity where we floated down the main part of the Payette River. I LOVED it but the closet I came to do anything like that again was floating down the Boise River which isn’t the same thing. This summer I finally was able to raft the river again with some good friends. My friend Mike and his wife Kim do a lot of rafting and even own their own raft. They invited me to raft the Payette River with them and I jumped at the chance. My good friend Jeff and I drove up to meet them in July.

We rafted the main part of the Payette River and the weather could not have been better. The rapids were big enough to be exciting but not overwhelming. The water was cold and refreshing.

I felt myself relax and soak in everything nature had to offer during the calm parts on the river. The afternoon was just what I needed and I know without a doubt something I want to do more of.

A few weeks later my BFF Jennifer invited me to raft the South Fork of the Payette River with her and her family.

DSCF0066

I have never been on the South Fork so I was excited. We went rafting with the Payette River Company. I have to say our guide wasn’t bad looking.

DSCF0077

It was another fun afternoon and I have to say if I wasn’t hooked before I defiantly was after that.

DSCF0065

The rapids were a little more heart pounding and at times I was thankful for my helmet. I am proud to say all of us stayed in the raft (a raft behind us wasn’t as lucky) and worked together as a good team.

A big thanks to Jennifer and her family for letting me tag alone with them!!

This summer I also learned how to kayak! To start out with my dad had me practice in his pool. I have to say is didn’t start well. Within a few seconds of getting in the kayak I ended up upside down in the pool. After that things got better but it took a little bit to find my balance.

IMG_4989

I finally started to feel more confident and after another evening of practicing I felt ready to try it on open water. Our adventure on open water was to help lifeguard for Emmett’s triathlon, no pressure right LOL. We spent a couple of hours and I ended up really liking it. Thanks dad for teaching me and letting me tag along!

80 Years!

My Grandma turned 80 this week! My Grandma was in town earlier this month and so we were lucky enough to celebrate with her than.

IMG_4268

My Grandma has one of the biggest hearts I know. She is strong in her faith and loves going to church. She is always serving others and is someone I look up to. I love you like crazy Grandma!!

Twin Bday

The twins turned 8 this week!! I was lucky enough to celebrate with them by going to dinner at Red Robin. With them turning 8 this year they will have both chosen to be baptized into the LDS church and will be baptized July 11th. I love being their Aunt and can’t wait to see what the next year brings for them! Love you boys!

Hot!

The official start of summer is here and with it Mother Nature is giving us a week straight of temperatures in the hundreds, yuck! I love summer and I love being outside but when we hit 100’s that is just too hot!

IMG_4434

With the high temps it means trying to find things to do to stay cool. Yesterday I meet up with my mom, my sister, and the kids at Eagle Island State Park. The kids loved the water and it brought back memories of when we would go as kids.

That evening I turned on a sprinkler in the back yard and the dogs had a little fun in the water. It was fun to watch them playing and Thor LOVES the sprinkler.

Thor

The last year I have thought a lot about getting a puppy but wasn’t sure if the timing was right. It was nice having Molly trained and adjusted well to my schedule.

IMG_3512

She does great when I am gone at work and she is easy to take on walks.

IMG_3848

Then this fall she started to have more problems with one of her back knees. It wasn’t bad but was starting to be more noticeable. Then this spring while playing fetch in the backyard she cut sharp and let out a loud yelp. The end result was she torn her ACL in her good back knee.

IMG_3114

IMG_2975

While she is doing much better now she still isn’t able to go on runs or hikes. She can go on walks but only short ones. With both bad knees now it is more of a waiting game which breaks my heart. After a lot of thought I decided now was the time to get a puppy. That way Molly could have a friend, she could help train it, and whenever she gets to the point where the pain is too much (which I hope and pray isn’t for a long time!) I won’t have to be alone. For awhile now I have been in love with the German Shepherd and knew I wanted one. My brother Jeff has a friend who breeds amazing German Shepherds and so I decided I wanted to get one from her.

On March 24th Thor was born. I was lucky enough to be able to go and see him a couple times before bringing him home and feel in love.

Once we got him home we introduce him to Molly which went really well!

IMG_3540

IMG_3555

The first night as predicted was ROUGH! I knew I wanted him kennel trained and set up the kennel in my room next to Molly’s bed. He cried, howled, barked and kept me up almost the whole night. It took a couple nights but now he is doing really well in his kennel! The past month has flown by. Him and Molly do really well together.

Having a puppy doesn’t come without challenges. The biggest for me has been his nipping. He has to nip and bite everything including people! It is slowly getting better but still a work in progress. Over all though he is a good puppy and I love him like crazy!!

I BIG thank to my Mom, my sister and my BFF for letting him out when I am work. I would not be able to do this without them. I can’t wait to see what the next month will bring!

Birthday

My birthday has come and gone and I could have not asked for a better birthday week. It was busy and fun but low key which was perfect. I only wish I would have taken more pictures! Monday night after work my friend Jeff and Nick took me to dinner at Texas Road House, one of my favorite places!! Tuesday I taught CPR with Jeff which is always fun. That night I had a BBQ with a few close friends over at my friend Jennifer’s house. I even had one of my friends stop by who was on duty at the time which was nice.

Wednesday I went to a movie with my friend Jennifer. It was fun to have a girl’s night!

IMG_3982

Thursday (my actual birthday) started off with a text from my BFF right at midnight wishing me a happy birthday. I met up with my sister, mom and nieces for lunch. Then what does a girl like me do, well, I meet up with my dad and donate blood!

IMG_3999

After I came home and had a few friends stop by with flowers, cards and chocolate.

IMG_3990

IMG_6631

For dinner I headed over to my sisters for dinner, cake, ice-cream, and a chance to hang out with the kids.

I feel so blessed to have so many friends and family who showered me with love. So far 34 has been good to me.

Flowers

One of my favorite parts of spring is to plant flowers. I love all the bright colors and watching my flowers bed grown each year. It is also fun to see what comes back from the year before. Each year gets better and better too! It is hard work but so worth it. Enjoy!

5K

This year I am working on getting healthy. I have been wanting and trying off and on for years to lose weight but usually after 10 lbs or so I either get board or frustrated and would fall back into my old ways. Last fall I had some health concerns and I decided enough was enough and it was time to get my life back.

go!

I was told by my doctor that due to my heart it was best to lose the weight slowly without using any fad diets or pills. It was all about watching what I eat and getting off my butt and moving. My friend Lisa challenged me to run a half marathon with her and while I have never been a runner I accepted the challenge.

run 1

My first challenge was a 5K (the Race for the Cure) this May. I downloaded the Couch to 5K app for my phone and went to work. It was anything but easy.

IMG_2898

Some days I could feel every extra pound that I was carrying around. Other days it took everything I had just to get myself out the door. But I did it. It was slow and not pretty but I did it.

IMG_3253

May 9th was here before and I was excited to see what I could do. My best friend Jennifer signed up to do the race with me and I loved having her alongside me.

IMG_3532

The 5K was fun and I was able to run/fast walk my best time yet! My average per mile was 14.38, 14:32, and 14:36, not bad for an overweight girl!

IMG_3533

I am now down 30lbs and am excited to see what this summer will bring.

Run

My next challenge will be a 10K in September, bring it!!

Emma is 5!

A couple of weeks ago Emma turned 5!! My sister lets the kids have a friend party when they turn 5 and then does a small get together for family.

With Emma being 5 I thought it would be fun to list 5 things I love about her.

1. I love her love for horses! Reminds me of how I was at her age.
2. I love her beautiful long hair! Until she was one she really didn’t have much and then bam!
3. Her smile can light up a room
4. I love when she has the moments where she just comes up and gives you a hug.
5. I love watching how happy she is when she dances.

Happy birthday Emma!! Love you!
